Nottingham Castle

Demolished out of spite during the Civil War, Nottingham Castle is actually a Cavendish estate built upon medieval foundations that was later burned out to a shell. It became one of the first municipal museums and is home to some lovely artwork.

Sandal Castle

Destroyed during the Civil War, Sandal Castle was the site of many an intrigue and was the setting for one of Shakespeare's plays.

Wakefield Cathedral

Dating primarily from the 15th century, Wakefield Cathedral was recently renewed. It is a small and intimate cathedral dominated by a mid-century rood topping the 17th century screen.
