Dithean

Since I never sit out dances, I have no pictures of people actually dancing. I assure you, lovely Scottish Country dancing was seen!

the cloisters

The Tree

every year this tree surprises me. it's such an old tree with gnarled bark and mossy rivers running down its very thick trunks and twirling branches. all winter it looks large, imposing, stark, and strong. and then, every spring, it suddenly blooms in the most delicate white flower that turns pink as the season goes on in a sudden large cloud of delicate color offset by its still dark trunk.

I love mending

we constantly pause our mending work to investigate and enjoy lovely old books

"a grammar of cree"

hint: if you want your book to be mended, date inscriptions (this note was 1908...on the title page was another note, dated 1858). bonus points for being able to write "half a century after this book was given to me."

"Martin Luther's Catechism translated into Algonquin Indian"

complete with a lovely map of the Schuylkill River

Contrast

the new molded concrete squares are in the back, this is what's being added to the building. the old antique carved stone in the foreground, this is what was once the only style on the building. new v.s. old...

What's hidden beneath

perhaps one of the most interesting things about these old (broken) books is the type of scrap paper used in the construction of the spines...

Sunset

Altbulgarischen Grammatik

My jobs at my college library mainly deal with problems. I don't really shelve anymore. Instead I search for books reported missing and fix books that are broken. Well, this library has a collection of (old) books still in Dewey Decimal (most of the library is in LOC) which are usually very, very broken and if something in there is listed as missing, it's genuinely missing. So it's a disheartening job to not find 100s of books. But what sort of makes up for this is that i constantly (instead) find books that the library has no record of. The following, hand-written manuscript basically validates my hours in those stacks!

title page

the whole thing is hand-written in delightful old-fashioned writing.

Girlyman

they are such a delight to see live because they just have so much fun w/ their shows. i don't usually take pictures during shows b/c of lack of tripod...but there was a railing.

Doris, Ty and Nate

Nate treated us to "Doris broke a string"

Nate takes care of his bandmates's eyes by fashioning the extra string into a bird

Doris: "No, please. stop that"

oh hey, that's the set list lying on the sound board

"You slammed through my life, like a huri-and you're off tune"

"we planned a finale...we're not sure what it'll be"

they start getting silly during the song
