Archaeology and Friends on Rocks

Baroña is an Iron Age site in Galicia.

Vista from the hill across from the outcrop the site sits on. We hiked through some intense gorse and brambles to get here...

view towards the entrance gate from interior

secondary fortified section

the gate

one of the complete circular buildings

I believe I was annoyingly asking about seasonal occupation at this moment

I liked how the walls worked so well with the natural rocks. (and check out the blue dot on the top of the rocks, that's a quite tall person)

divergence of walls to create...dead end paths.

almost aerial view from one of the natural rock outcrops

my 3 companions

It's a dramatic setting for the settlement

in the gate, here is a spot for a gatepost of some sort

Petroglifo da Pedra da Cabra

so you turn off the road, end up in the mountains and you're following these.

until they end. leaving you at the high cross (a common feature of the Galician landscape)

but petrogylphs tend to be on bedrock outcrops like this one.

There it is! This is dated to the arte rupestre period in Galicia, c. 3000-1000BCE.
