Beverley Minster-Font

 the whole towering impression
carved expertly in wood during the Victorian period-having such a cover for the font is just extraordinary
the font itself is very old-possibly Saxon but more probably Norman

Beverley Minster-Sculpture

One of the most distinctive things about Beverley Minster is the hundreds of medieval musicians carved along its walls. In fact we owe much of what we know to sculpture such as this.

Victorian additions to the already impressive legacy of medieval sculpture

the carving is not just at eye level along the blind arcades but also between each arch of the nave

Beverley Minster-Interiors

 nave elevation
 blind arcades along the ambulatories
Victorian door with 3/4 lifesize figures (this is a huuuuuuge door)
Looking down the Nave
North ambulatory (this is a pilgrimage church)

 Tomb

 Altar elevation
I'm actually not sure how to call this: it's behind the altar facing the main window of the nave-an altar screen?
Threadbare flags in the military chapel

Beverley Minster-Exteriors

As I walked up to the Minster I felt almost lied to- surely this is a cathedral not simply classified as a "church"? This grand building is on par with some of the best cathedrals I've seen in France and UK.
Late English Gothic has more stone than French High Gothic but has the same aspiration to height
Victorian carved sculpture makes the statues 1/2 life sized to fit the full canopies allotted to them

St. Mary's of Beverley-Carving

entrance to the chancel (fantastic ceiling) and the miseriachord canopy
 14th century stalls
with a range of exquisite fantastical carving on its seats (from the standard saints to an elephant with a castle on its back)
 graffiti? or signature?

St. Mary's of Beverley-Ceilings

I loved this church's many varied starry ceilings (including a hemispherical star chart above the choir vestry)

 Crossing Tower
Most spectacular was the chancel ceiling which is painted with portraits of England's kings from the legendary Brutus to Henry
